Artist Statement
“I have built my life playing music in the tri-state area since I was a child.
I’ve watched Asbury Park get resurrected from the ashes and participated in its rebirth as a thriving live music city.
Whether it was local jam sessions or society gigs I’ve played every dive bar, Jazz club, assisted living facility and tourist attraction – and while doing so I encountered some of the greatest improvisers on Earth right here in my local community.
I witnessed the warm and inviting music culture of Freehold and the Jersey Shore. Yet despite building and maintaining a live music career as a sideman for over 25 years in a difficult landscape, I still focused many of my performances on the underserved. I believe in offering fulfilling and inclusive musical experiences to those who would otherwise have no access to live music.
And while doing all this I wanted to find a way to express myself in the age of distractions, trends and confusing algorithms. I decided the best way to be an artist was to write simple melodies on my basses and hire the best musicians I knew to record a professional live album with a world class engineer in a proper studio. No shortcuts, no second takes.
That is the story of “Subtle Moves in Silence”. It represents my peace in all of the chaos. It represents all of the miles I’ve traveled and the countless hours away from my family and friends to simply become a better musician – to grow and evolve just like the great instrumental artists and composers I call heroes. Most importantly, it represents the people who nurtured me and taught me how to communicate through my instruments.”
